Tight shoulders, hard to get it to stay

Very tight through the shoulders. I measure 40 inches around the shoulders and in order for this to fit like shown I had to force stretch this for days. I ordered this in extra large because I wanted a looser fit but a large would have worked everywhere besides the shoulders, very strange. Also, the shoulder area isn't stretchy as there is a tight sewn band with little give, my stretching efforts almost didn't work (I suspect I broke the stitching). Due to this I would not recommend this.
